Co-Culturing Rituals - BioSoothe

Year: 2024
Role: Biodesigner, Material Researcher, UI/UX Designer

BioSoothe explores regenerative skincare through the use of photosynthetic microalgae and bacterial cellulose, forming living skin patches and lotions that nourish both skin and planet. The project reframes skincare as a cohabitation with microbial organisms, offering a biodegradable alternative to synthetic, waste-heavy products. Drawing from biodesign and service design principles, BioSoothe integrates local production loops, minimal processing, and sensory rituals to invite users into a slower, more conscious relationship with self-care. Developed through lab experimentation, public engagement, and iterative prototyping, the work challenges conventions of product design in the beauty industry—positioning the skin not just as a surface, but as a site of ecological connection.
